Materials

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (rice wine)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Make the Meatballs:
In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, black pepper, and the egg. Mix everything until well combined.
  • Form Meatballs:
Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake:
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.
  • Make the Sauce:
While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, honey, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Coat the Meatballs:
Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the Korean barbecue sauce over the meatballs and toss them gently until evenly coated with the sauce.
